Research At The Jackson Arthritis Center
By: Theraysa J. Richardi
Clinical research, or research conducted in a clinic setting, is
essential to making new arthritis treatments available to the individuals who
need them. The Jackson Arthritis Center
is privileged to be involved in some cutting edge orthopedic trials. Following is some information on our newest
study collaboration.
The Flextra Trial
The Flextra Trial is
a post market study reviewing a “blood thinning” medicine called Arixtra®
(generic name: Fondaparinux Sodium).
Blood thinning medications are very important following major surgery,
such as a total hip or knee replacement, because they help limit the incidence
of blood clots. Deep vein thrombosis,
or blood clots, can lead to life-threatening conditions such as pulmonary
embolisms.
The purpose of the
research study is to look at how well Arixtra® works in preventing blood clots
and how safe Arixtra® is if taken more than six hours after elective orthopedic
hip and knee surgery.
Without your
participation, none of these studies would be possible! If you believe you may be a candidate for
this study, please give us a call at (510) 238-4851 ext 107 or email
trichardi@arthritis-center.org.
